Grade 7A Date 05.10 The Theme: My Hero
Objectives:
- Students will be able to name three qualities of a Hero, including that heroes choose to help their communities.
- Students will be able to identify at least one other person who has made the choice to help his or her community.
- Students will be able to make a list of five ways to help and make a difference in their communities.

Development
Beginning activities:
- Greeting: – Hello, how are you? -I`m fine, thanks! I`m glad to see you!
- Calling the register: -Who is on duty today? Who is absent today?
What date is it today?
Warming up activities: Brainstorming to write on the board the word HERO and ask students to write qualities of hero.
Listen and repeat after me! One smart man, he felt smart.
Two smart men, they both felt smart
Three smart men, they all felt smart.
Following up activities: Checking home task: at home you should do mini-projects to the theme “Me and my world”. Are you ready? Who wants to come up to the board and tell about his or her project?
Т: Today we’ll have an unusual lesson. Today everyone has a chance to tell us about your heroes. Today we try to answer the questions: Who is a real hero? What kind of person is he (she)? Who is a hero for modern teens? I hope that you will be great writers.
II. Let’s read the definitions from the dictionary.

1. a man distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, fortitude, etc.
2. a man who is idealized for possessing superior qualities in any field

III. Roleplay.
T: What do you think who are the heroes of teens from different countries?
Let’s play a game. Divide into 3 groups. Imagine that you are reporters working in the agency. Your aim is to find information about heroes of teens from different countries. The best story will be published in our magazine. You know different categories of heroes: family, peacemakers, writers and so on. Choose the hero you like, read the story about him or her and tell us about it. (Group 1, group 2…)
Your stories were perfect. Whose story was the best? (P1, P2). You are right. You will be good reporters. Our magazine is waiting for you.
IV. Listening.
T: Well. I see you know many outstanding people from Britain , the USA and Kazakhstan, of course, people often choose heroes among famous people. Can an ordinary person be a hero? Your mother or your neighbour, or may be your classmate? (P1, P2…) What is a hero? The answer to this question you can find in this short story. (Students listen to the text).
What is a hero to you? Is it a survivor, someone who has saved someone’s life or is it just someone who you look up to?
Let`s have a rest.
V. T: What does it mean to be a hero? To be brave, honest, generous, to have such qualities as courage, selfless, to save somebody’s life or maybe it’s enough to be rich and well-known. I hope you have understood who girl’s hero is. What have you learnt about her?

Name please 5 famous musicians, 5famous inventors, 5 writers or poets, 5 sportsmen.
T: Good work! I hope you can tell your British friends about these great people. Think about what hero your group will present. (Work in groups).
T: Your time is over. Are you ready? Let’s start.
VII. Round off activities.
I think that everybody in your class can be a hero too. Somebody would be a hero for the whole country, somebody a hero for your city or village. And somebody would be a hero for your own children. Everything depends on you.
T: I’d like to ask you the most important question of our lesson: “Who is your hero? “ We’ve already discussed this point and decided that a hero can be different for different people. What about you? Express your opinion.
P1: My heroine is my mother. She is a doctor at a hospital. She works hard. She saves people. But she also finds time to take care of our family. She keeps our house clean, makes tasty meals, does the washing, helps me with my homework, and gives me advice in difficult situations.
P2: I know he isn’t famous, but my hero is my Dad. He is always fun. He was the first to teach me to play football. I can go fishing with him. We love watching football matches on TV. He isn’t a person who orbited the Earth. But he is so kind and clever that he is just fun to be with.
P3: I think my friend is my hero. She is nice, kind-hearted, loyal. She is patient with me. She does a lot of things excellently: dances, sings and plays basketball. She is always on time. So I have a very good example to follow in my everyday life.
P4: My hero is our President Nursultan Nazarbayev. He does his best for our peaceful and good life. He is a very kind person. I`d like to be as he. He is known all over the world.
P6: Actually I’m sure that Mother Teresa can be a very good example to follow. She was а generous and kind-hearted person. She was a simple nanny. She never wanted to be famous, but everyone in the world knew who she was. She asked people for help. Then she gave everything to the poor, the needy. Her message to the world was “We can do no great things – only small things with great love”.
T: Super! Marvelous! You are important!
I’m glad that you look for examples to follow and find them among your relatives and friends.
XI. Giving and explaining homework.
T: I’ll give these special cards with words of wisdom. It is said that she had this on her wall. It was her motto.

Your homework is to read, translate and use it as your own motto.
T: I’m really proud of you and your knowledge. I think it’s important to be a citizen of the whole world, to be aware of events and people. You know many heroes, and I hope they’ll be your example and help you to choose the right way in life.
