On Q.Ö. Jüsip’s Memoir-Essay «Fariza»
Today I struggled a lot,
I couldn’t write anything… – as the great poet Mukagali said, before writing this work, I thought a thousand times and hesitated before deciding to take up the pen. My goal is to express my thoughts on the extensive work of Q. Jüsip. Of course, it’s very difficult to comment on the work of a professor who has thoroughly mastered the intricacies of science…
When Atyrau is mentioned, literary enthusiasts think of such wordsmiths as A. Sarsenbaev, F. Ongarsynova, Z. Serikqaliyev, and others. We can also include the poet Q.Ö. Jüsip in this list. This is because Q. Ötegenuly has managed to find his readers through his impactful and sharp poetry, filled with wisdom and intelligence.
Today I have in my hands the book «Fariza,» published by the «Ağatai» publishing house. The author is Qadır Ötegenuly Jüsip, a professor at Atyrau State University named after H. Dosmukhamedov, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Social Sciences, and author of several books. This work («Fariza» — memoir-essay) discusses the life and artistic path of the People’s Writer of Kazakhstan, Laureate of the State Prize of Kazakhstan, prominent poet Fariza Ongarsynqyzy. In general, there are quite a few works written about Fariza and her status as a poet.
However, these works do not repeat each other. Although the themes and main characters are the same, the artistic solutions are different in each.
Thus, the memoir-essay «Fariza» is entirely about the life of the poet Fariza, her student years, her various roles over the years, and her status as a poet.
The object of literature is life, and its subject is man. This is an undeniable law. Through the creation of the human image, life is recognized and understood. Any work of art, whether it be word art or sculpture… is all about humanity. At the core of everything is the person, their beauty and intellect.
From the very beginning of a literary work, what we seek is a person, their image, their fate, and their actions in life.
In order to depict the truth of life in a work of art, the writer gathers material. Generally, a writer goes through three creative stages to produce a work. These stages are:
- Collecting materials.
- Analyzing the collected materials.
- Writing the final material.
Writer Q. Jüsip has gone through all three stages. Before writing this work, he revisited the pages of his past, filtered them through his own thoughts, selected what was necessary, and recorded it as a memoir. As a result, a scientific-research work, i.e., a memoir-essay, was born.
All writers seek prototypes for the main image of their work. For example, the prototype of Kairos in G. Musirepov’s novel «Kazakh Soldier» is the Hero of the Soviet Union Q. Ysmagulov, while in the memoir-essay «Fariza» (by Q. Jüsip), the prototype is the poetess F. Ongarsynova.
The main image in this scientific work is Fariza Ongarsynqyzy.
According to artistic methods, the image is divided into two types: - Romantic image;
- Realistic image.
In this work, Fariza is presented as a realistic image.
The writer widely employs narration as the main component of the plot and composition to create the work.
The author also beautifully portrays Fariza’s portrait. For example, she is described as dark-skinned, with well-combed hair, beautiful eyes that do not easily meet the gaze, and always deep in thought…
«A true writer, having written a hundred words, can create a great work only if ninety-five of those words are excellent and the remaining five are good,» as Sholokhov rightly stated. The writer skillfully uses each word in its proper place, and the precision of thought and feeling in the word painting creates a special mood for the reader. The language of the work is very easy to read and simple. At the same time, artistic methods are uniquely employed.
This work also includes an article titled «Fariza,» published in the newspaper «Altyn Orda» in 2009, and in the second part, there is a speech titled «Words About Fariza.»
I examined this work in two parts. - Part: «Fariza» – memoir-essay;
- Part: Report on Fariza.
The first part fully describes her student period. It is especially noteworthy that the author of this work, Q. Jüsip, studied in the same group as the heroine of his work, Fariza Ongarsynqyzy. This is clearly indicated on the fifth page of this work.
What particularly surprised me was that even though the elderly writer, who has reached seventy-five, remembered his classmates and teachers fifty years after graduating from the institute, which clearly shows his loyalty to friendship and love for his teachers.
Fariza’s enormous contribution to her homeland is also extensively discussed.
It is particularly worth noting her teaching, the warmth in her heart, and the spark in her eyes when she nurtures the youth. This is evidenced by her students and followers: B. Babash, M. Ershuva, A. Dauletbaeva.
Another noteworthy point is that E. Ötebaev is the one who guided both Fariza and Q. Jüsip, as well as N. Ajigaliev and other poets into the world of poetry. This is confirmed by their membership in the «Zhas Qalam» platform, where they were mentored by senior lecturer E. Ötebaev.
The writer skillfully conveys deep thoughts about Fariza, which demonstrates the writer’s mastery. We applaud Qadır Ötegenuly’s significant contributions to the literary world!
The events depicted in the work have passed through the writer’s heart filter and sincerely touched his soul. Each of Fariza’s actions in life and poetry evokes thoughts in Q. Ötegenuly’s beautiful narration, allowing readers to reflect and make meaningful conclusions.
It would be appropriate to pause for a moment and highlight the author’s other works.
His scientific works include: «The Poetry of Jumeken Najimedenov,» «Jumeken’s Riddle,» «Kazakh’s Qabdollov,» «Peak and Abyss,» «Wonderful Bейбарис,» «Issues in Makhambet Studies,» as well as literary works and poems like «Aisha Bibi,» «Akyn Askar,» «Er Salyk,» «Zeynollanama,» «Qyran Samghau,» the poetry collection «Heart’s Secrets,» and the textbook «Introduction to Literature,» as well as studies on the novel «Zhankeshу» and the scientific-research work «Fariza.»
We, the entire literary community, stand and applaud Qadır Ötegenuly’s achievements. I wish the writer new successes and boundless inspiration!
I have no doubt that the name of the educator-writer, who tirelessly works for the future of the country, will be written in golden letters in the history of Kazakh literature and the university.
Keep soaring, writer!
