The outline of the party.
\nGlad to meet you, dear teachers, students and guests! Welcome to our party! The programme deals with the countries about the UK and Great Britain and its places of interest.
\nStudent 1
\nThe official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is situated on the British Isles off the northwest coast of Europe. The British Isles consist of two large islands: Great Britain and Ireland and about five thousand small islands.
\nStudent 2
\nThe United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast respectively. The population of the country is over 57 million people.
\nStudent 3
\nThe United Kingdom is a monarchy. The Queen is the official head of State. In practice the country is ruled by an elected parliament. The British Parliament has two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. There are three main political parties: the Labour, the Conservative and the Liberal.<\/p>\n

\nThe Queen was born in London in 1926, the first child of King Yeorge and Queen Elizabeth. Her eldest child, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales was born in 1948. His sister, Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, was born in 1950. The third child of the Queen, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, was born in 1946.The Queen has six grandchildren.<\/p>\n

\nThis is the name of the largest island of the British Isles. It is historically divided into three parts which were once independent states: England, Scotland and Wales. The people who live in England are English, the people who live in Scotland are Scots, the people who live in Wales are Welsh. At the same time all these people are British because they live in Britain.

\nLondon is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. Its population is about 8 million. London is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in the world. London was founded in the first century by the Romans. They left London in the 5th century and the city was largely abandoned. By the 8th century London was again a busy trading centre, and in the 11th century it became the capital of England. Edward the Confessor built a palace and an abbey at Westminster. The Norman period saw the construction of the Tower, old St. Paul\u2019s Cathedral and many churches and monasteries.
\nThe next comes a dialogue between two pupils.

\nThere are a lot of places of interest in London. Among them are: Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul\u2019s Cathedral, London Bridge, the Tower of London.

\nWestminster, now the political centre of London, was a sacred place until the 11th century. King Edward the Confessor decided to build a great abbey church here. It was constructed in 1065, but a week later the King died and was buried in the abbey. His tomb became a popular place of pilgrimage. It still can be found at the heart of the present Westminster Abbey. William the Conqueror was crowned in the Abbey and since then all Coronations have taken place here. The Palace of Westminster was the royal residence and also the country\u2019s main court of law.

\nThe present Houses of Parliament were built after the old palace was burnt down in 1834. The building contains the House of Commons and the House of Lord, the tow chambers where parliamentary business is debated. On the corner next to Westminster Bridge stands St. Stephans Tower, which houses the famous bell, Big Ben, which chimes the hours.

\nBuckingham Palace is the Queen\u2019s official London residence. Built in 1702 \u20131705 for the Duke of Buckingham, it was sold in 1761 to George III. The Palace was little used by royalty until Victoria\u2019s accession to the throne in 1837. London\u2019s most popular spectacle is Changing the Guard. It takes place in the forecourt and lasts about 30 minutes.

\nSt. Paul\u2019s Cathedral is Sir Christopher Wren\u2019s masterpiece. It stands at the top of Ludgate Hill on a site where a Christian church has stood since the 7th century. The construction of the Cathedral started in 1675 and was not finished until 1709. The magnificent classical structure is crowned by the dome. Inside the dome are scenes from the life of St. Paul. Here too is the famous Whispering Gallery. There are many memorials in the Cathedral including those to heroes such as Wellington and Nelson.

\nThe Tower of London has been closely associated with many important events in English history. It has served as citadel, palace, prison, mint and menagerie. The White Tower was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror to protect the city. The Tower is famous for its illustrious prisoners, such as Sir Thomas More. Many notable people lost their heads on the executioner\u2019s block. The Tower is guarded by the Yeoman Warders popularly known as \u00abBeefeaters\u00bb.
