In addition, as <\/span><\/font><\/font>Head of the Commonwealth<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/a>, she is the figurehead of the 54-member <\/span><\/font><\/font>Commonwealth of Nations<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/a> and, as the <\/span><\/font><\/font>British monarch<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/a>, she is the <\/span><\/font><\/font>Supreme Governor of the Church of England<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/a>. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              After she celebrated her twenty-first birthday, later Elizabeth’s II engagement to Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh – was announced. Their wedding took place in Westminster Abbey on 21 November 1947. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              Princess Elizabeth came to the throne on 6 February 1952 following the death of her father. Her coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales<\/span><\/font>, (born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent<\/a> and eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>. The prince is well-known for his charity work. He married Lady Diana Spencer<\/a> before an enormous worldwide television audience in 1981. Diana Frances Spencer was born at Park House, Sandringham<\/a> in Norfolk<\/a>, England. They had two children, Prince William of Wales<\/a> in 1982 and Prince Harry of Wales<\/a> in 1984. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              Prince William <\/span><\/font>(born 21 June 1982), is the elder son of Prince <\/span><\/font>Charles <\/span><\/font>and Diana, Princess of Wales<\/a>, and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> and Prince Phillip. He is second in the line of succession<\/a>, behind his father. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              Prince Henry<\/span><\/font> (born 15 September 1984), is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales<\/a> and Princess <\/span><\/font>Diana <\/span><\/font>and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>. As such, he is third in the line of succession<\/a> to the thrones of 16 independent countries<\/a>, though he is resident in and most directly involved with the United Kingdom<\/a>.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              The marriage of Charles and Diana was formally ended in divorce on 28 August 1996.<\/span><\/font> <\/span><\/font>On 31 August 1997, a year after the Prince and Princess divorced, Diana was killed in a car crash<\/a> in Paris.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              The second child of the queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip is Princess Anne, now the Princess Royal, was born in 1950. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              The third child of the Queen is Prince Andrew, now the Duke of York, was born in 1964. The Queen now has 6 grandchildren.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

              The year 2002 marked the 50<\/span><\/font>th<\/span><\/font><\/sup> anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s accession to the throne. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
