TYPES OF WELDING

Non-consumable Electrode Arc welding

As a non-consumable electrodes  tungsten or carbon  electrodes can be used. In gas-tungsten arc welding  tungsten electrode is used in place of the metal electrode used in shielded metal-arc welding. A chemically inert gas, such as argon, helium [«hJlIqm], or carbon dioxide is used to shield the metal from oxidation. The heat from the arc formed between the electrode and the metal meits the edges of the metal. Metal for the weld may be added by placing a bare wire in the arc or the point of the weid This process can be used with nearly all metals and produces a high-quality weld. WHAT IS A COMPUTER The term computer is used to describe a device made up of a combination of electronic and electromechanical (part electronic and part mechanical) components. Computer has no intelligence by itself and is referred to as hardware. A computer system is a combination of five elements: • Hardware • Software • People • Procedures • Data/information When one computer system is set up to communicate with another computer system, connectivity becomes the sixth system element. In other words, the manner in which the various individual systems are connected — for example, by phone lines, microwave transmission, or satellite — is an element of the total computer system. INTERNET Millions of people around the world use the Internet to search for and retrieve information on all sorts of topics in a wide variety of areas including the arts, business, government, humanities, news, politics and recreation. AUTOMATION

      Automation is per forming certain tasks, previously done by people, by machines only. The sequences of operations  are controlled automatically. The most familiar example of a highly automated system is an assembly plant for automobiles or other complex products.

The term automation is also used to describe nonmanu facturing systems in which automatic devices can operate independently  of human control. Such devices as automatic pilots, automatic telephone equipment and automated control systems are used to perform various operations much  faster and better than could be done by people. MACHINE — TOOLS Machine-tools are used to shape metals and other materials. The material to be shaped is called the orkpiece. Most machine-tools are now electrically driven, lachine-tools with electrical drive are faster and more eccurate than hand tools: they were an important element n the development of mass-production processes, as they allowed individual parts to be made in large numbers so as to be interchangeable.
