Warm-up :

(W) Activity 1 “Garden Song”

After the listening “Garden Song” the learners guess that they are going to learn about garden at this lesson.

Learners are divided into three groups:

(G) Activity 2 “Beautiful gardens the world”

Teacher asks learners to look at images of gardens from around the world and from Kazakhstan on IWB and name what’s in them

e.g. Group 1 has to name only nouns e.g.: trees, plants, flowers, grass, seat, wall, gate, water, bird house, fountain, stones, stairs, bridge, bush, path.

Group 2 has to name only adjectives e.g.: nice, beautiful, tall, low, big, green, airy etc.

Group 3 has to name only verbs e.g.: to walk, to plant, to have a rest, to pick, to hear, to paint, to smell etc.

(G) Activity 3 Game “Magic box”

Play the game with magic box to check the objects and rooms of the home.

Learners should take the card from the magic box and name the object on the card

Example:

A dining room, a kitchen, a bedroom, a sitting room, a cabinet, a study, a bathroom, a toilet, a lavatory, a rest room, a closet, a balcony. etc

(W) Listening Activity 4

Pre-learning

Learners are shown the video. Listen and try to understand the story. Can you guess what about is it?

Learners find out the main idea of the story. Students are shown the video about the garden to activate their ideas.

(W)Speaking Activity 5

What does it mean?

Teacher gives definitions to the following words: flower, garden, house, neighbour and colour. Learners must guess the word and make a phrase or short sentence.

1.Flower [flauә] n — the coloured part of a plant from which the seed or fruit develops

Example: a beautiful flower

2. Garden [ga:dn] n – a piece of land next to or around your house where you can grow flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc, usually with a lawn.

Example: Children playing in the garden.

3. House [haus] n – a building for people to live in usually for one family.

Example: He went into the house.

4. Neighbour [neibәr] n – a person who lives next to you or near you.

Example: We’ve had a lot of support from all our friends and neighbours.

5. Colour [kлlәr] n – the appearance that things have that results from the way in which they reflect light.

Example: Red, orange and green are colours.

Differentiation

Learners, who are less confident at describing, can be given copies of description .

More-able learners can be encouraged to use act out a dialogue.

The most-able learners can be encouraged use the full range of language and prepare the description

Learners are given the text. They must speak about this text after reading it.

I have a flower garden. My garden is in front of my house. My neighbour has a garden too.

My garden has different colours.

I take care of my garden.
I water my garden every day.
I kill the weeds in my garden.
I kill insects that eat my flowers.
I love my beautiful garden.

Learners should read the dialogue and try to performance it:

A: Where is Anna’s garden?

B: In front of her house.

A: How many types of flowers does her garden have?

A: Which color are the flowers?

B: red, orange, blue, purple

A: What does Anna do every day?

B: She takes care of her garden.

A: Why does Anna kill the insects?

B: Because insects eat her flowers.

Describe a picture of the garden and underline the prepositions

Example: I have a flower garden. My garden is in

front of my house. I have roses in my garden. I have trees behind my house. There is a bird’s house near the trees. There are tulips opposite roses. Red flowers are between purple and blue flowers.
